About the build:

When we pitched the idea of customizing a tiny Strider bicycle to Led Sled’s Pat Patterson, there was no hesitation. “Sure,” he said, “both my kids learned on them and never needed training wheels. They were riding pedal bikes by age 3.”

How he managed to fit the job into his other work is a mystery; Led Sled runs flat out all the time. But once the day of the unveiling got closer, Pat got to work and met the deadline, with at least a couple of hours to spare.

He told us he patterned the Strider Custom after his “Naked Truth” bike; that’s the full-size custom motorcycle he built in 2015 for the Buffalo Chip’s Motorcycles As Art exhibition. Curated by Michael Lichter, the Naked Truth theme that year focused on bare metal, form, and craftsmanship – no paint or graphics.

Watch for the 7 Strider Rider Customs to be displayed at motorcycle events and Strider races through next June. They’ll be auctioned off before the 2019 class is unveiled at the Flying Piston Builder Breakfast at the Buffalo Chip CrossRoads during the 79th annual Sturgis Rally.

About the Flying Piston Builders Breakfast

The Flying Piston Charity Breakfast, presented by Russ Brown Motorcycle Attorneys, is a celebrity-strewn meet & greet held at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip that brings together cutting-edge custom builders and motorcycle industry influencers to meet the public. The event supports veterans suffering from PTSD and provides technical education scholarships to students in South Dakota’s Black Hills.

An initiative with Strider Sports International sent Strider bikes to top name builders for customization. The Strider Rider Customs were unveiled at the 2018 Breakfast event at the Sturgis Buffalo Chip during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. It was the first stop on their year-long tour. The Strider Rider Customs will be auctioned at the 2019 Breakfast, as a new group is revealed.
